Energy Conservation

Wyndham Destinations associates around the globe are working together to reduce energy consumption. The Wyndham Destinations global footprint is driven by our facilities, with 99% coming from electricity, natural gas and fuels. Through environmental programs that help increase awareness, innovation and teamwork, we are establishing green initiatives that target new, energy-saving alternatives.

Wyndham Destinations set 2010 as a baseline year, and tracks performance against the baseline using an intensity of carbon equivalent per square foot to normalize across the business units. As of year ending 2015, Wyndham Destinations reduced its emission intensity by 21% by continuously measuring and utilizing proven conservation strategies.

The Company reviews its top energy consumers and emitters on a quarterly basis. Since Wyndham Destinations operates three distinct business units, Wyndham Destinations, Wyndham Destinations and Wyndham Destinations, the top energy consumers are handled on a case-by-case basis. Data is reviewed collaboratively with each location, and areas for improvement are identified in an effort to reduce energy. Opportunities for improvement range from simple programs with low-to-no cost to more complex measures involving energy audits and capital expenses.

For our environmental footprint, our focus is on facilities where we have operational control. Wyndham Destinations is targeting a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions per square foot by 2025. The Company will achieve these results through a phased approach by creating a climate of behavioral change by means of training and education, energy efficiency programs and select advanced renewable energy projects where applicable. As of year ending 2015, Wyndham Destinations reduced its emission intensity by 21% per square foot when comparing to the baseline year.

Green Goals

Renewable Energy Projects

From wind power to solar panels, Wyndham Destinations is committed to finding alternative resources to power our properties. In 2015, 157 sites in our portfolio used renewable energy, including our corporate campus headquarters in Parsippany where 100% of the electrical load is offset from renewable sources and is estimated to have an annual savings of 1,370 CO2e. In Europe, Landal GreenParks’s sustainable vacation bungalows purchase 100% of their electricity through renewable sources.

Business Travel

Starting in 2010, Wyndham Destinations officially began reporting Scope 3 business travel. Emissions related to business travel include air travel and vehicle usage such as car service and rentals. In 2015, emissions related to business travel were 10,374 MTCO2e, which is a reduction of 23% over 2010 on a per-employee basis. Below are some examples of how we achieved this reduction.

In 2014, the Company initiated a carbon offset program through its partnership with Avis Budget Group. The program, implemented in conjunction with NextEra, allows for the complete offset of all carbon emissions associated with Avis Budget rentals. It is anticipated that Wyndham will offset approximately 900 metric tons of carbon per year while investing in domestic wind and solar projects. Amazingly, through sourcing negotiations, this partnership added no cost to the daily rental prices of the vehicle, making a win-win-win for people, planet and profit.

In 2015, Wyndham Destinations partnered with United Airlines to reduce carbon emissions associated with corporate air travel. The Eco-Skies Carbon Choice program enables the airline’s corporate customers to track and offset the emissions related to business travel. Through this program, United provides customized enterprise-level carbon emissions reports and can purchase carbon offsets to counterbalance the emissions associated with air travel. Wyndham has decided to offset the carbon with the Red Hills Wind Farm in Oklahoma.
